We took the bullet train from Hiroshima to Kyoto - it is actually more expensive than flying but so easy - just line up and on you go.. super comfortable and can you say quick! it travels at 300 km/h. It only stops at each station for 2 minutes, so you have to be ready....
Kyoto... we are in a typical Airbnb for Japan - can you say tiny! It is like our arctic entrance with a bathroom. We are making do...
First stop - Arashiyama Bamboo grove - which is over-run by tourists, us included. Hate to see it at high season!
Kate and I did the Okochi Sanso Garden where we saw beautiful gardens and had tea - with Japanese Sweets ....
We also checked out the local monkeys...
They get close... really close
Finished the day with the Kinkaku-ji temple which is covered in gold leaf!
Opinion Piece.....
Kate accurately pointed out the irony of walking through a bamboo forest with fences made of fake plastic bamboo....
Zen gardens when you are pushed through by the crowds so that you can't even slow down let alone meditate....
Bike lanes in Kyoto that aren't used but sidewalks are still a free-for-all with bikes and pedestrians.
Japanese sweets that aren't even sweet but kind of gooey and weird...
A land where noodles are so salty that they rival the 'cup-o-salt' instant soups at home but nuts don't come salted.....
